August – November 2013
Do you know how to select a ripe pineapple? How about the perfect eggplant? Jose, one of Whole Food Cupertino’s friendly and knowledgeable produce team members, will lead us through the produce department where we’ll select the perfect produce items to use in our dishes back at the Culinary Center. We’ll also enjoy some wines from local wineries while we enjoy our fresh summer salads and desserts. And we’ll learn about the local chapter of Slow Food.
$10 of each ticket will be donated to Slow Food South Bay.
Join us on a farm tour and apple tasting led by Nick Prevedelli, grandson of the founder of this family-run apple, pear and berry farm in Watsonville. Our visit will include an overview of the apple sorting system in operation (custom built by the family) and of the process of preparing for the weekend farmer’s markets.
Prevedelli Farms grows a wide variety of apples, both well known and relatively unusual heirloom varieties. As part of our visit we will tour the orchard and sample some of this delicious fruit.
Children are welcome!
Afterwords we will gather at Gabriella Cafe, a local, slow restaurant in Santa Cruz, where participants may purchase a lunch of their choosing. RSVP to email@example.com.
Meet in the parking lot behind MONTA VISTA MARKET to carpool to Watsonville, OR let us know if you’ll be carpooling separately.
Come celebrate the important role of food in our lives with the opening of Montalvo’s latest exhibition in the Project Space Gallery, Mountains in My Spoon: Artists and Food at the Lucas Artist Residency!
From 6:00 to 7:30 pm, join us for lively literary readings on the subject of food and a panel conversation about eating local, thinking global, and the future of food and wine writing. Delicious culinary morsels prepared by local artisan food makers will be available to sample and purchase.
Have you ever wondered how to pick out the perfect butternut squash? How about the juiciest pomegranate? Wonder no longer! In this hands-on cooking class you’ll be collecting your ingredients with the help of our friendly and knowledgeable produce team members and then taking those ingredients back to the Culinary Center to make some delicious fall recipes! We’ll also have the opportunity to sample some local wines selected by our wine specialists! Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Slow Food South Bay organization.
